In the world of small HD cameras, I already talked about my little GoProHD who almost never leaves me (see this article ). Equally at ease in that video camera, it lacks a microphone input for recording radio communications. Especially since my Sanyo HD1000 just give up the ghost, at least the microphone ;-(
One of the competitors is the GoPro ContourHD. Tubular, wide-angle is smaller (135 ° cons 170 ° for GoPro in 720p mode), it has a sort of built-in laser for adjusting the sight, because as the GoPro, there is no control panel. But more important, a model derived from the ContourHD called nflightcam , has two advantages that could make a difference:
- A GPS (GPS contour in version)
- A customized version called nflightCam, incorporating a small additional circuit to record audio directly from the intercom!
ATC + Voice + Video + Replay
GoogleEarth With the gate of Contour, the GPS function is to review the flight with all elements. This might appeal to some instructors-geek for debriefing and to energize their students work alone back home. Ah, if I had that!
How much does it cost?
The website indicates NFLIGHTCAM (commercial site paypal):
- NflightcamGPS: $ 499
- Nflightcam1080p: $ 399
Ouch! It's not cheap, but having a single unit to handle in which everything is built is a really good idea. Well, a good idea at $ 500 anyway (+ $ 30 postage for France). For
AvWeb autonomy in its test indicates 2 hours with the battery and 30 minutes on an SD Memory Card 2GB (quite similar with a GoPro). Still
job for the marketing department nflightcam
The communication department has a long way to go to match that of GoPro. Another example of video nFlightCam: http://vimeo.com/13897127 .
It is written on their website "If You Have a cool video and send us The Link we'll post it. My response: "Feel free to send me a demo-product, I'll be glad to edit Some promo. video for you ... for free ";-)
A quick test of AvWeb (among 2 other solutions "flight recorders")
is when Christmas already?
